McAlpine Tools Appeal

As previously reported the main project that RUGO is supporting is a vocational school to train technicians in the Development of Rwanda. The school will be built in Nyamata, in an area where some of the worst massacres in the 1994 genocide took place.

RUGO's support is limited to raising the funds to equip priority departments of the school. These departments include: MarkParker of McAlpine Homes Eastern Division with Lillian Wong and Mike Hughes

· Masonry & Construction

· Carpentry

· Plumbing / Appropriate Technology

· Information Technology.

· Tailoring

As part of the fund raising appeal letters were written to companies and individuals appealing for help with donations of new / "recycled" equipment which can be used in the workshops of the school.

Andy Coull of McAlpine Homes East Midlands Division - Outside the Daventry OfficesIn response to this request, Oliver Whitehead, the Chief Executive of Alfred McAlpine, agreed to support RUGO.

A nationwide appeal was made to all McAlpine sites asking employees to donate hand tools that they no longer use or are surplus to requirements to help equip the school in Rwanda.

The response from the sites was absolutely tremendous. Many boxes of hand tools both new and old were collected including several wheelbarrows, sledge hammers, and many different types of tools for use in construction work.
