Vocational School Project

Five years on from on the darkest time in it's[IMAGE: RUGO's coordinator in Rwanda, Rose Kabuye, laying a foundation stone] history Rwanda is in the process of rebuilding itself, this can be seen by many different projects which are either run by the Rwandan government or NGO's, across the whole of Rwanda. The Nyamata Vocational School is one of the projects instigated by the Government, whose central objective is to fill the gap in the number of skilled artisans labour which is hindering the development of Rwanda.

This is because previous regimes had ignored this section of the labour force by looking to foreign workers, and now many of the few Rwandan technicians or artisans were killed or fled during the Genocide of 1994. Construction of the school at Nyamata has already begun, with the foundations of the most of the campus being set, this is being funded by the Government. They approached RUGO to help with supporting the school, as vocational training is high on the objectives of RUGO. [IMAGE: Construction of the first classrooms nearing roof level]

We have limited our initial support to raising the funds to equip the first four departments of the school when it enrols its first students in September 2000. The Rwandan Government will carry out the physical construction of the school as well as the actual operation and staffing of the school. These departments include: Information Technology; Motor Vehicle Repair; Tailoring; Masonry & Construction.

A project proposal has been produced and funding is being sought from a number of different sources including Grant Making Bodies, Companies and Fund Raising events such as the National Liberal fund raising evening.
