RUGO CHARITY LAUNCH
In February 1999 RUGO was formally granted charity status. This was
celebrated in a fund raising evening held in April in the National Liberal
Club in Whitehall. Guest speakers included Oona King MP, Baroness Chalker
and Professor Sydney Brandon.
Oona King talked about the importance of education in Africa, and also
talked about her experiences during her visit in 1998 to Rwanda which
moved her to set up an All Party Parliamentary Group. Baroness Chalker
talked about her time that she spent in Rwanda immediately following
the genocide, and Professor Brandon discussed his work in trauma counselling
in Rwanda and the great need that still exists.
