Rwanda Development Trust - The way forward

The Rwanda Development Trust - RDT - was established officially in January 1995 as a fund which supports projects in Rwanda.

Since its formation, the Trust has made succesfull applications to Comic Relief and the National Lottery for the benefit of Avega -Agahozo, the self sustaining widows of genocide organisation.

Any project eligible for help needs to have been initiated by Rwandans and needs to show that it is already ‘up and running’ and viable.

RDT’s charity fund is specifically intended to benefit Rwandese development projects which can be shown to be well planned, reliable and supported within Rwanda.

It is not a fund which distributes aid but was set up to counterbalance the effect of those organisations quick to collect money for Rwanda but keen to distribute it elsewhere.

The Trust also operates child sponsorship schemes at £20 per month and in this area there is always a need to help with secondary school fees.

After the formation of RUGO, it was agreed that the RDT be a ‘charitable arm’ of RUGO.

This means that charity donations can be made but should be done in the Trust’s name.
